I stared this project in January 2010-March 2010 specifically specialising in childrens wear design. After doing much research into Sugar magazine to find the customer profile which was a target audience of girls aged 13-19 years, enjoys socialising with friends, doing quizzes, shopping, bowling, cinema, make-up, beauty and hair ideas, modelling, accessories, current trends including clothes and shoes.
I also looked at spring/summer 2010 colours on the runway and found that the colours often used for this season was nude, cream, white, brown, black, pink, blue and I decided to look at these more closely by also looking at trends. I found that frills and ruffles were a huge trend on the runway which worked favorably to me as my project required me to use frills in my project. I particulary looked at work by Marc Jacobs as he uses alot of frills in his summer 2010 collection, I would describe it as mystical and dream-like but very inspiring to my work. I wanted to create a Twilight themed project along side Sugar magazine and frills so I decided to focus on a surreal type of look but wanted my final piece to be wearable to my target audience and not just a catwalk fashion item which is unwearable.
